19th December Christmas Quiz!
I've spoken with Simon, and let me assure you this is a quiz with a difference!! Just right for the run up to Christmas! Click Christmas Quiz Night 2011 and we'll see you at the Royal Standard for a great evening.*******
1st December Scillies Info Evening
This was a very worthwhile meeting, with an excellent presentation by Lucy stimulating interest in not just attending World Championships, but TRAINING for them! These two aspects really went together, and the need to give serious committment was balanced by the reward that was gained in team work and all round performance.
There was a good turnout of those new to the prospect of Scillies and "old stagers", - both rowers and supporters. Ken's DVD from 2010 was played as an introduction and after Lucy's presentation everyone mixed together and chatted about what could be expected and the fun and effort that this weekend presented.
What then? Having rowed in The World Championships, the rest of the rowing season will await!

26th November End of Season Bash, Village Club
What a great evening! It was the opportunity for our members to meet old and new, re-live the last year with well-deserved awards, eat drink and be merry. The Village Club looked resplendent, - both thanks to its general redecoration, but also to Lucy and JB.Indeed Lucy must be praised for all her hard work and enthusiasm, encouraging others, and being "simply oarsome!". Thanks too to Robbie for providing his disco music throughout the evening and into the night. In fact, Robbie was co-winner of Services to the Club last year for his work on the website, and forgive me if l make mention of his continued work and expertise in this area over the course of the last year. So with that introduction, what of this year's awards?
We were delighted to welcome Kevin Laity, his wife Tracy and daughter Rachel. They tragically lost their son / brother last year, and in memoriam had created a most beautiful and skillful replica of our gig Serafina. The detail was stunning, and the model presented beautifully on a wooden plinth. Kevin spoke briefly on behalf of the family, and the award for Most Outstanding Member Under 25 was given to a very happy and surprised Emily.

Other prizewinners as indicated below. Regrettably the photos didn't come out well, so we have instead just three photos where the camera nearly did as wanted, - apologies for the shots that didn't come out. At least our Hayley came out well and shone as everyone's pin-up girl!!

About Nankersey Rowing Club
(formerly Flushing Rowing Club)
FOR THE ROW OF YOUR LIFE!
Welcome to Nankersey Rowing Club. We are a friendly and happy club with the simple ambition of making rowing a pleasure for all those that come along. Whether you want to be part of a racing crew or just have a fun row (just out on the water or to a nearby place of refreshment!), whatever your age or ability, Nankersey Rowing Club wants to make your experience with us one that you wish to repeat again and again. For those who do not want to go on the water, you are welcome to become a supporter and join in all our on land activities, -these include monthly quiz nights, mostly at the Royal Standard in Flushing.
Our pilot gig Circe is based at Watersports in Mylor, from where we row out across the beautiful Carrick Roads to St Mawes, St Just, and other picturesque locations.
How did it start?
In July 2008, four like minded residents of the small village of Flushing, Cornwall, decided to bring rowing back in the community of Flushing for everyone. Together we purchased a Flashboat 'Kernow' from Calstock Rowing Club. This produced much interest in the village and we were approached by a resident who offered a substantial loan, enabling us to purchase our own Cornish Pilot Gig 'Circe' from Truro River Rowing Club.
The
boats were refurbished by a small band of enthusiastic members under
the guidance of local resident Malcolm Fairweather and repainted in club
colours of blue and white.
The boats are now kept at Windsport, Mylor Harbour and winter rowing
takes place every Saturday and Sunday morning with rowing also taking
place on Wednesdays and Fridays during the day according to the tides.
Rows can be booked on our Rowing Calendar ensuring you are able to row
at a time and day convenient to you. (On joining the club, you are
given access to the calendar)..
Swans on River Fal - the inspiration behind our logo..
We have a 'Try Before You Buy' system which entitles you to four rows before you become a member - just to make sure you like it first! We hope this new project will enable residents of Flushing and the surrounding area, old and young alike, to row, increasing health and fitness whilst having fun and enjoyment within the marine environment, also ensuring that the village of Flushing has a community based organisation which can be used by All and which can continue to grow with the support from like minded residents.
Our name has been amended from Flushing Rowing Club to Nankersey Rowing Club (the old Cornish name for Flushing) to accommodate neighbouring clubs in the area - we are however the same club! Come and join us for a row....
SUMMER ROWING TAKES PLACE ON TUESDAY, WEDNESDAY, THURSDAY AND FRIDAY EVENINGS AND SATURDAY AND SUNDAY MORNINGS
Send an email or call 01326 376922 to book a slot (Even if you are just on holiday).... So if you fancy coming along and joining us for a row whether competitively or leisurely or as a non-rowing supporter, please email info@nankerseyrowingclub.com or telephone Anne on 01326 376922.
Just down on holiday? Come and join us for a row on the water, whilst staying at the Blue House and Green House, Flushing, you won't want to go home.....www.flushing holidaycottages.co.uk We look forward to hearing from you...
